Summary Description of your Organization
Career Mothers for Exclusive Breastfeeding (CAMFEB), is an organization that aims to encourage and support new mothers, especially working mothers, to carry out exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life and up to 2 years or beyond with complimentary foods as recommended by World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. It also aimed at educating urban and rural mothers both in the formal and informal sectors the importance of exclusive breastfeeding through various initiatives.
The issue of Women and work according to World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is about enabling women to successfully combine their reproductive and productive roles. It is a health issue, an economic issue, a labor issue, and a human rights issue. Today more and more of child-bearing age are working outside the household, in work that keeps them far from home for long hours and with rigid schedules making it ever harder for new mothers to exclusively breastfeed once they go back to work before the children reach six months of age.
CAMFEB was founded in the year 2015 by Martha Mugure Mugi who was then breastfeeding her second child, borne from her own experience to strive to exclusively breastfeed, she saw the need to advocate and help implement workplace breastfeeding support policies through sensitization on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding
Career Mothers for Exclusive Breastfeeding (CAMFEB), was officially registered as an association under the Societies Rules (N0. 49370) on the 3rd of May 2017.
