Summary Description of your Organization

Foundation for Rural Development (FORUD) is a nongovernmental organization that was established in September 2015 and got registered on 21 June 2016 with the Government of Malawi at the Registrar General under the trustees incorporation Rules. The organisation has 42 members and is affiliated to Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA), Social Welfare Office, District Youth Office (DYO), Coordination Union for the Rehabilitation of the Environment (CURE).

The organisation was established with the view of promoting citizen participation in developmental activities. The founding members realised that citizens who are manifested to benefit are not the integral part of development activities. Citizens are also denied inclusive participation and decision making. It is in this view that FORUD came into existence in order to break the barrier of participation among citizens in developmental activities and other issues that affect them.

The title of the project is " Girls Empowering and Protection Project "

The project aims at combating child marriages and preventing HIV promoting activities such as "Kusasa Fumbi" through harmonising age at which girls get initiated and also creating by-laws that will empower and protect girl child.
