Health Development Alternative Initiative

I. Background Information

Health Development Alternative Initiative (HDAI) is an independent, non Governmental, non-political, not – for - profit Organization with the overall aim of improving the health status and wellbeing of people as well as their socio economic development.

Mission
HDAI shall contribute significantly towards the improvement of the health status of the people as well as their overall socio economic well-being through their active participation inculcating the spirit of self-reliance for sustainability.
Objectives
1. To create awareness, wipe out ignorance through provision of Health Information, Education and Communication on various health and development issues.
2. To plan and implement public enlightenment programs aimed at preventing Communicable diseases and ensuring community participation and ownership of health interventions.
3. To address gender inequalities in health access and improvement through Advocacy Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM)
4. To conduct research, including operational research, so as to encourage evidence - based interventions.
5. To build the capacity of community members to carry out community based health intervention through training and re-training.

• HDAI is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Abuja.
• Its scope of operations is at LGA, State, Regional, National and international levels.
• HDAI is also registered with SCUML

1. HDAI has a Network of CBOs that operates at the grass root level in more than 39 LGAs in Kano state and still expanding
2. HDAI Network with NGOs in all the states in North-west zone
3. Network with Community and Facility based PLHIV support groups.

Projects/activities implemented since incorporation:
1. Currently implementing;
2. Referral of presumptive TB patients and treatment support of smear positive patients in slums in Kano Municipal LGA from 2015 to date Supported by GF TB/HIV NFM for TB Active Case Finding.
3. Referral of Pregnant women to health facilities for HTS, mobilization increase PMTCT service uptake – among pregnant women in GF supported facilities Dec. 2015 to Dec. 2017. Supported by the Global Fund NFM CSS Project for PMTCT demand creation.
4. Clinton Foundation project: Translation of IEC materials in to Hausa for community consumption - 2015
5. Referral and treatment support to MDR TB ambulatory patients in Kano state – Nov. 2012 to Dec. 2013. Supported by GF NFM for Community MDR-TB care
6. Referral of Presumptive TB patients and Mentoring of CBOs in Kano, Kaduna and Katsina States for demand creation to improve TB case finding in the 3 states – Jan. to Dec. 2013. Supported by KNCV Mentor Mentee Project
7. Referral of Presumptive TB patients, community mobilization to increase TB case detection in 10 LGAs in Kano state -2011 to 2013. Supported by Global Fund Community TB Care (CTBC)
8. Advocacy Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) community demand creation for DOTS service utilization in communities where DOTS service was expanded - 2012. Supported NLR/ State TBLCP
9. Partner with SACA for Community mobilization for increased HTC service uptake in various in vulnerable communities in Kano state – 2013, 2015 and 2017
10. Capacity building training of TB component for ATM CSOs on AIDS, TB and Malaria prevention in North West zone – 2012. Supported GF/Action AID Project
11. Community empowerment and sustainability: Formed a Network of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in over 39 LGAs in Kano state – 2009 to date
12. Community outreach health education campaigns aimed at improving knowledge on HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, reproductive health and utilization of health facilities in Kiru, Kunbotso, Tofa, Dala and Garun malam LGAs in Kano state – 2010, 2011 and 2015
13. Linkage to care treatment on Nigerian AIDs Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) to 44 local Government in Kano State .

Management Structure
For the purposes of smooth running of the organization and the attainment of its aims and objectives, HDAI has the following bodies:
i) Board of Trustees (BOT)
ii) Management Team.
The above shall be responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring/evaluation of day-day running of the activities of the organization.
