Summary Description of your Organization
Kurainashe is a registered Community Based Organisation formed in January 2012 with the intention of reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS and improve the lives of people infected and affected with HIV/AIDS in Mazowe District.The organisation has extensive experience in HIV/AIDS, PMTCT and VMMC. Since its formation, the organisation conducted behaviour change programs through community mobilisation on HIV testing and counselling and link those who tested HIV positive to treatment. The organisation raises awareness campaigns to women to register their pregnancies before three months. Early registration of pregnancies helps women to get tested and reduce home deliveries. The program is also targeting men to accompany their wives to register their pregnancies to health clinics or hospitals. The organisation is conducting community dialogues and leader’s dialogues to encourage men and boys to go for Voluntary medical male circumcision as a way of reducing their chances of getting HIV/AIDS by 40%. The organisation has been vibrant in addressing key drivers of HIV, Child marriages and GBV such as: Multiple concurrent partnering Inter-generational relationships and how they expose children to early marriage, GBV and HIV. Gender imbalance Early sexual debut Incorrect and inconsistent use of condoms. The organisation implement income generating, sustainable livelihoods and Internal Savings and Lending Initiatives for people infected and affected with HIV/AIDS in Mazowe District. The projects aim to increase women’s economic empowerment that enhance women’s bargaining power and access to resources. Economic empowerment has an impact in supporting women to have voices, power and improve the status of women in their intimate relationships leading to reduced GBV and child marriage cases.
