Rainbow Shadows Uganda

RSU is a registered community based trans feminist organisation located in western Uganda based in Mbarara District that has been in existence for two years. Rainbow Shadows Uganda started late in 2015 by a group of transwomen and transmen who had previously been marginalized within the mainstream of the grassroot feminist movement in Western Uganda. The LBQT population in Western and Southwestern Uganda is widespread but significantly marginalized. With a few interactions made in the neighboring villages of Mbarara, Kabale, Kanungu, Ntungamo, Rukungiri and Bushenyi Districts, and with health service providers such as TASO, Mbarara Regional Hospital we found out that most of the LBQT people were not being reached out to and most Transgender patients did not disclose their gender identity to the health workers and yet health workers play a sizeable part in the psychological and physical transitions that Transgender population undertake hence starting RSU which would help to reach out to the above mentioned targeted groups of sexual minorities directly to meet their needs especially in programming made by organizations that work with key populations.
